Inauguration of our School Garden

A small school garden has been established and was inaugurated by the mayor himself

Schoolgarden inaugurated at Grenaa Gymnasium

At Grenaa Gymnasium, the Environmental Council has established a school garden. So far, it consists of seven raised beds and was inaugurated on Tuesday, April 8th. Students from VidenDjurs have made the boxes according to the wishes of the Environmental Council and from Douglas fir from Sostrup.

Volunteer students in the Environmental Council have now established the raised beds, and the intention is to grow, among other things, strawberries, herbs, peas, and pumpkins. It will be volunteers among the students who will take care of the garden.

There are several purposes for the garden: To facilitate learning and practical experience with growing greens, to promote awareness of the value of local food, and to inspire students to grow greens themselves later in life. Additionally, it is also the ambition to try to design the garden in such a way that it locally increases biodiversity and stores CO2 in the soil via perennial plants. And perhaps the boarding school’s kitchen will occasionally be able to enjoy using locally grown herbs in the day’s menu.

The school garden is funded by the Youth Climate Action Fund via Norddjurs Municipality, and Mayor Kasper Juncher Bjerregaard found time to participate in the inauguration.
