The European Day of Languages is an occasion to reflect, celebrate and get to know each other a little better

The International Language Day celebrated at Grenaa Gymnasium

September 26 is the European Day of Languages, celebrated across the EU. Each year at Grenaa Gymnasium, it serves as an opportunity for IB1 students to reflect on their mother tongue—some have more than one—and the other languages they speak fluently, partially, or simply have some knowledge of.

They consider how they acquired these languages and how this strengthens them, for example in relation to education.

Naturally, at Grenaa Gymnasium, this always becomes an international celebration of languages, as the students represent many more languages than European ones.

During the week, they prepare for the grand finale in the canteen, where the Pre-IB students are invited to visit stands where the IB1 students represent their mother tongues. After a full week of building up, spirits are high!

The lasting memory for the rest of the school year is the language rainbow, representing all the languages spoken by the IB1 students.
