The 2nd year STX students studying Mathematics at advanced level visited the engineering department of Aarhus University
On the last Monday of September, the STX students with advanced-level mathematics visited the School of Engineering in the Navitas building in Aarhus.
After an introduction to the countless possibilities of engineering studies, they participated in “Escape the Chemical Lab” in the best escape room style with fun chemistry exercises and other exciting tasks in one of the chemistry labs.
After lunch, the students met a mechanical engineer specializing in thermodynamics, who had worked on the rapid cooling of beer cans in his bachelor’s project. The beer had now been replaced by canned soda, and in small groups, the students had to compete to cool the cans the most in 30 seconds. One group actually managed to cool a can by about 10 degrees Celsius. It was exciting and educational, and the students had many good ideas for cooling.
After the visit to Navitas, we went out into the real world to one of the new, mega-expensive projects for Denmark’s richest man, Anders Holch Poulsen, who owns Bestseller, among other things. The new project is called “Hængslet” and will consist of office spaces on columns and a market square on the ground floor.
The students, wearing helmets, vests, and safety shoes, toured the construction site and went down to the bottom of the building to take a closer look at the parking basement. There was a lot of talk about concrete construction, facilitated by a civil engineer who will soon be a civil engineer.
The day gave a really good insight into the many opportunities that an engineering degree can offer.
