More students apply for admission at Grenaa Gymnasium

Rise in number of applications for Pre-IB, IB Diploma and HF

At the closing date March 16th for applications Grenaa Gymnasium had received 249 applications compared to last year’s 203 for the three upper secondary programmes offered, the international IB Diploma and the two Danish national programmes HF and STX.

A Brexit effect?

“We are of course very pleased with these encouraging numbers,” says Head of School Helene Bendorff Kristensen. ”The number of Pre-IB applications is the most significant, as this year’s 64 applications amounts to a 100% increase.” The head of school further explains that this increase is partly due to more Danish students applying. This year 18 Danish students have applied for admission to Pre-IB whereas 11 did so last year.”

“The number of applications from European students accounts for the major part of the increase,” Helene Bendorff Kristensen explains. “Maybe Brexit causes more young people to consider upper-secondary education elsewhere that the UK, because there there are now uncertainties regarding residence permits and self-payment of tuition fees for EU citizens.”
