The premise on which we make all our decisions and run our school and boarding school.
Denmark has been a welfare state with egalitarian principles since the 1960s. This is why the majority of all education in the country is tax paid and state governed. The governing principle is free education for all.
The boarding schools, like kindergartens, nurseries and similar institutions are recognized as institutions that some citizens might need access to, but not all. This is why you have to pay approximately 1/3 of the actual cost for the boarding school as a fee. The other 2/3 of the fee are tax paid by Danish tax payers and companies. During holidays the school is closed and the students have no access to the boarding school. These weeks do not reduce the boarding fee.
If your income is low, you can apply for a fee reduction, and, if granted, a larger part of your fee will be paid by taxes.
The fee for living at the boarding school is calculated per year. The fee is paid to Grenaa Gymnasium and you can choose to pay once per year, half-yearly or you can choose to split the boarding fee into 10 equal rates. If you choose to split the payment into 10 rates, the last rate must be paid no later than 6 May.
IB2 students end exams in the month of May and must leave their room at the boarding school no later than 1 June.
A possible reduction of the boarding fee is calculated based on your parents’ and your income, deducted an amount per sibling under 18 years per 1 August in the enrollment year and living at home. Find the exact amount here:
